So it’s come to light (and is not very surprising to me, actually) that feather extensions are generally being sourced in a cruel fashion. Roosters are being killed solely for the feathers, which is just plain ridiculous. So I wanted to experiment with an alternative that doesn’t involve the uneccesary slaying of birds but still gets a similar effect. Now I did this on a mannequin head that had some golden blonde pieces but hair could be lifted to get an even bolder effect. I used a bright orange formula, let it process in a foil for a bit then opened it up, painted on some dark brown with a small brush and flat wrapped the foil and let it process for about 15 minutes. Depending on the hair color around/underneath the “feather”, I might do a thicker section of hair to make it really pop. But for a quick experiment I thought it came out pretty damn cool!
So there is your non-bird killing alternative to feather extensions. And sure, these can’t be popped out in the blink of an eye like the extensions can, but they can be colored over whenever one gets tired of the look. I am excited to try this on a real life client next!
